  1. An olive is an evergreen tree Olea europaea 
  2. of the family Oleaceae. Native to Asia but 
  3. widely cultivated in Mediterranean and 
  4. subtropical areas, it grows up to 15m (50ft) 
  5. high, with twisted branches and opposite, 
  6. lance-shaped silvery leaves. The white 
  7. flowers are followed by green oval fruits 
  8. that ripen a bluish black.
